NZIFST FED Talk - Central Branch Presents - It's Cheese, but Not as We Know It - China Cheese Consumption

Although China’s per capita consumption of cheese is small compared to other Asian countries such as Japan and Korea, the increase in consumption has been rapid over the last 10 years. The Chinese Government has encouraged dairy consumption for nutritional purposes, and this has been one of the catalysts for the increase in cheese demand. Growth has largely been driven through the Food Service channel, as Chinese consumers have taken to Western Fast Foods like Pizza and Hamburgers. Cream Cheese has been used extensively through the bakery channel. The Chinese have used cheese in quite unique and sometimes weird ways compared to what New Zealanders know and understand about cheese.
