    If you are reading this then, great, you have found our new website!

    We have been beavering away building this new more inclusive website for the Institute.
    One feature we are looking forward to is the new member-only section where you can log-in and update or change your own profile, plus keep track of membership invoices. When coupled with the advanced search function members will be able to search the directory on a number of filters, including expertise.

    Pay by credit card on-line is again available for your and our convenience!

    There are other features we will be rolling out in due course as we become more confident in the power of the new system.

    And as for those membership invoices? They will eventually be automatic with accompanying regular reminder emails....BUT... we are going for a soft start so will be sending them out slowly and carefully this first time..

    We have run our tests but there is nothing like over 1000 members testing the system for real, so please bear with us but do let us know what you think. We already know that there are some things we do not like but cannot change as they are linked to the SAAS website we are moving to.

    IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN ....

    (2) Step up and have your say in what your Institute does for you


    FROM the 'pen' of our President, Jonathan Cox:

    One mission of our organization is to provide New Zealand food industry professionals with opportunities for networking, professional development and recognition. Speaking from personal experience one of the greatest ways we deliver development opportunities is through the opportunities to serve on our board, executive and local branch committees. Over my career these groups have been low risk ways to develop skills in chairing meetings, basic project management and most recently in Governance leading the NZIFST Board.

    There are a number of opportunities coming up. Firstly all local branches will be having their annual AGM and this is a great first step if you would like to know more about our institute. Second, we are now calling for nominations for our executive positions which includes the Treasurer, Vice-President and 3 elected roles. These roles are a great way to come into the NZIFST board and start to understand governance. I am really keen to see some new faces come onto this group, feel free to give myself or Rosemary a shout if you’d like to understand more about what these roles entail.

    And finally - we are also calling for your assistance to acknowledge and recognise our many great members - our awards nominations are now open.

    JC Andrews Award

    This is the Institute's premier award and recognises an Institute member who has made a substantial contribution to science and technology in the food industry

    NZIFST Young Technologist Award

    This award is to recognise a young technologist (under 30 years old) for their endeavour or achievement in the food industry.

    NZIFST Leadership Award

    This award recognises leadership excellence during exceptional circumstances, or for a notably sustained period, and above the normal line of duty

    Ron Hooker Award

    To recognise a member's significant past or current service or contribution to the NZIFST, developing the affairs of the Institute, its Branches or Divisions

    Distinguished Service Awards

    These awards are presented to recognise on-going exceptional service and contribution to any sector of the food industry over a long period and above the normal line of duty.
    Both members and NON-members may be nominated for this award.

    NZIFST Fellowship

    Professional Members of NZIFST who have made a SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION to the profession of food science and technology and who meet the membership time criteria may be nominated for Fellowship.

    (The Awards Committee reserves the right to not present any of these awards in any year)

    DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!


    The oils and fats specialist group (NZIC) is offering $1500.00 towards an eligible student in the lipid field, to attend the World congress on Oils and fats to be held in Sydney in February (9-12th).

    Applications are invited from students attending NZ Universities or polytechs.
     
    Simply write one paragraph describing your work and current interests and how attendance at the conference will help your future career. The application should be signed by the appropriate supervisor. Applications to be sent to the Chairman Laurence Eyres eyresy@gmail.com.

    It is expected that the winner will present at least a poster paper at the conference.

    Applications together with an abstract of the work to be in by mid-September 2019.

    Nominations are now open for the:

    NZIFST/Allergen Bureau
    BEST PRACTICE FOOD ALLERGEN MANAGEMENT Award

    In accordance with the Allergen Bureau Mission,  the Award Committee will decide the recipient based on their contribution to a consistent, science-based approach to food allergen risk assessment, management and communication that guides industry best practice; and assists allergen sensitive consumers to make informed choices based on label information.

    The nominee does not have to be a member of NZIFST, and all companies or organisations supporting the NZ Food Allergic consumer (Food Manufacturing, Importing/Distribution, Retailing, Analytical, Consultancy, Support) are eligible.

    Nominees for this award must be a resident in New Zealand or a company with a New Zealand site location

    Nominations close Friday 24th May
